The Director of Strategic Alliances is an exciting position for an experienced, hands-on, execution-oriented candidate. The core mission is to conceptualize, execute and develop strategic alliances with new and established alliance partners. He or she will work closely with various internal lines of business as well as with Bachem’s higher management.

This position will provide strategic and operational leadership with key external partners that ensures Bachem’s long term goals and ambitions. The alliance manager role is critical to enable Bachem’s strategic goals related to growth and innovation. The position will accomplish this through a collaborative long-term approach across key external and internal partners to enable novel business constructs, robust governance processes and innovation.

 

Areas of responsibilities

The jobholder

  • acts as a proactive contact partner for the customer and as a driver, moderator and negotiator in critical situations (internal and external) and serve as an advocate for the overall partnerships and their objectives.
  • identifies /creates new opportunities in the relationship to continuously develop, fine tune, and evolve the alliance -
  • Develops strategic rationales and business cases for partnering, drives the formation of partnerships, submits proposals and takes a leading role in the negotiation of key collaboration agreements. 
  • Sets up governance structures for alliances and acts as primary point of contact for internal and external partners.
  • Mitigates business risks, legal uncertainties and human relationship risks.
  • Works to reduce inefficiencies out of operations and monitor resources devoted to the alliances
  • Engages in frequent communication to seek 360⁰ feedback from external partners and internal stakeholders on alliance performance/issues 
  • Bridges business model / cultural gaps between Bachem and partners
  • Oversees key activities related to business operations, including cross-functional issue management, contract adherence, and ensure alignment with alliance goals 
  • Partners with internal Bachem stakeholders to address issues/gaps and ensure alliances are meeting intended goals and helps to identify and resolve conflicts.  Drive “Voice of the Alliance/Customer” to diagnose relationship health
  • Creates opportunities for non-organic growth by identifying, evaluating and engaging potential third party strategic alliances.

Your profile

  • BSC/MSC in Chemistry/Life Science
  • at least 5-7 years of experience in the area of business development, alliance management or strategic sourcing preferably in the field of CDMO business
  • Demonstrated experience creating and working with complex negotiated agreements
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural people and matrix leadership.
  • Ability to travel 25%-30% domestically and internationally.

 

Languages / IT Experience

  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
  • Knowledgeable with MS Office applications
