Manager, Project Management
A brief overview
The Manager, Project Management carries responsibility for the Project Management (PM) team across Bachem Americas sites. They will ensure the PM group tracks manufacturing projects and coordinates customer feedback and interaction related to these projects. The PM Group, for which the Manager is responsible, functions within the Sales organization ensuring that manufacturing accounts are managed appropriately supporting the Client, Production and Sales to ensure effective execution and completion of projects.
What you will do
Line Management
- Organizational Leadership: drive business unit and department development as member of CMC Project Management extended Leadership Team.
- Group Leadership: build and lead a high-performing group of project managers of various experience levels as direct reports to ensure employee goal alignment with company, business unit and department goals and strategy.
- Employee Integration: recruit new employees, facilitate onboarding and foster a collaborative work culture.
- Professional Development: establish development plan for individual employees based on their individual needs; propose new and regularly evaluate existing training programs to allow for effective development of CMC Project Leadership skills and individual competences.
- Coaching: provide support to improve individual performance on current activities and responsibilities
- Innovation Leadership: encourage a culture of innovation, empowering groups and individual employees to develop new solutions and services.
Group Portfolio Management
- Group Goals: execute respective group focus according to value proposition and purpose during the product life cycle
- Optimization and Growth: identify, initiate and drive organizational development projects triggered by portfolio needs
- Stakeholder Relations: manage key stakeholder partnerships to achieve shared objectives of the group and its project portfolio.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: monitor group’s project portfolio progress and success and evaluate outcomes.
- Capacity and Resource Planning: keep track of Project Leaders’ workloads and assign projects based on their expertise and capacity.
- Corporate Representation: represent the group portfolio and the company in critical negotiations and steering committees.
Project Leadership
- Lead large project teams (10-20 internal and additional external members, high technical complexity) for customer and in-house R&D projects operationally; developing CMC strategies to expand client relationships
- Act as business lead in ongoing collaborations: contract negotiations, business proposals and forecasting, risk-sharing options
- Accountable for adhering to project scope and reaching deliverables in time by considering associated agreements/contracts with the customer
- The Manager will lead CMC projects to an extent of not more than 40% of total available time assuming a directly managed group size of 5-7 PMs. For remaining 40% of available time, the typical responsibilities of a Sr. Project Manager will apply.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in science (chemistry, biochemistry, biology or similar) with 5 years of relevant work experience
- Bachelor's degree in science related field with 10 or more years of relevant work experience
- PhD in science (chemistry, biochemistry, biology, bioengineering, or similar) or MBAPMP Certification (preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years in a customer-facing or CMC project management role
- Advanced understanding of clinical development phases, goals, and regulatory compliance for drug substances.
- Proficiency in general Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles, including familiarity with ICH Guidelines and key requirements within Bachem’s quality system.
- Experience with regulatory filings related to CMC aspects.
- Ability to navigate complex challenges independently.
- Previous line management experience of advantage
- General IT skills including MS Office/Teams and MS Project
- Advanced knowledge of IT tools such as Salesforce, MasterControl, SAP or similar CRM
Base salary range: $141,040 - $178,000
Placement of new hires in these wage ranges is based on several factors including education, skill sets, experience, and training.
