HSE Specialist

Bachem is a leading, innovation-driven company specializing in the development and manufacture of peptides and oligonucleotides for the pharmaceutical industry. To strengthen our HSE organization in Vionnaz (Valais, Switzerland), we are looking for an HSE Specialist 100% (all). In this role, you will support site investment projects by ensuring that Health, Safety and Environment requirements are integrated throughout the project lifecycle, from design to commissioning, while promoting safe, compliant, and sustainable operations.

Your Responsibilities

• Act as the HSE representative for site CAPEX projects and technology transfers, ensuring HSE requirements are integrated from the earliest design stages through commissioning.
• Promote Safety by Design principles and risk reduction at source throughout project execution.
• Organize and participate in risk assessments, including HAZOP, PHA, ATEX, fire, ergonomic, and environmental assessments.
• Support PSSR and Management of Change (MOC) processes and ensure implementation of preventive and protective measures.
• Ensure compliance with legal requirements, company standards, and industry best practices, and verify their integration into project documentation and specifications.
• Define and monitor contractor HSE requirements and oversee high-risk activities during construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
• Contribute to inspections, audits, investigations, and the sharing of lessons learned following incidents or near misses.
• Deliver HSE awareness and training activities while driving continuous improvement initiatives across project teams.

Your Profile

• Higher education qualification in HSE, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field; additional training in project management or process safety is an advantage.
• At least five years of experience in an HSE role within a regulated industrial environment such as the chemical, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry.
• Experience supporting investment, expansion, or facility modification projects.
• Proven experience conducting or facilitating industrial risk assessments and working with contractors on industrial sites.
• Strong knowledge of process safety, risk management principles, and industrial safety regulations.
• Familiarity with ATEX, fire protection, environmental protection, industrial hygiene, SIS principles, and OPAM requirements is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively in a matrix organization.
• Fluent French and professional proficiency in English; German and experience with HSE management systems are advantageous.
