Technical Sales Specialist

The Technical Sales Specialist is responsible for circulation of precise and accurate technical information to customers, supporting sales efforts through technical education, and maintaining current available scientific information. In addition, the Technical Sales Specialist is responsible for selling Bachem’s research products and services by contacting prospective and established customers.


Your Tasks


  • Address all customer inquiries relating to scientific information, product application recommendation and technical usage of products
  • Assist customers in locating technical or scientific information when appropriate
  • Track and analyze all customer complaints, identify complaint trends, recommend process or product improvements to resolve complaint trends and implement recommended improvements when possible
  • Track and analyze all technical inquiries and implement improvements to product literature (technical bulletins, brochures, analytical data sheets, etc.) to address inquiry trends and maintain absolute accuracy and effectiveness of information
  • Identify growth areas and recommend expansion of product offering to capitalize on purchasing trends
  • Train sales force and other key personnel in basic science to improve customer interactions
  • Monitor competitive activities and trends
  • Participate in strategic cost/ price analysis for new projects and evaluate manufacturing strategies
  • Develop research sales opportunities by researching and identifying potential accounts
  • Qualify inquiries, prepare quotes and process orders
  • Act as a liaison between customers and operations personnel
  • Meet established company research sales quota by obtaining and renewing orders
  • Cross-train on all primary customer service functions and assist the Customer Service group with call overflow
  • Present at technical seminars about Bachem’s products and services to clients
  • Consult with production scientists or organizational programs as needed
  • Maintain training in all peptide-related fields and expand expertise to other product offerings
  • Attend critical scientific meetings and conferences to hone expertise as required


Your Profile


  • Bachelors Degree in a Science related field
  • 3-5 years laboratory research experience
  • Customer service experience
  • 1-2 years of sales experience
  • Continuing education as needed to maintain current expertise
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment
  • Ability to communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
  • Detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical and analytical problems
  • Ability to work independently and manage one’s time
  • Communicate effectively and ability to function well in a team environment
